Teaching with technology requires professional development. There is always something new to learn or experience. Many Michigan PD opportunities can be found on the Michigan Dept of Education site. The site includes numerous links to professional development offerings from around the state including online offerings. The sheer number of workshops being offered around the state is a testament to the commitment to professional development by Michigan educators. Check with your local Intermediate School District/Service Agencies for PD offerings as many of the REMC Instructional Technologists offer technology training to staff in local districts. Several state-wide projects exist that provide professional development in technology integration: The ATA Technology Academy provides multiple day summer workshops for building-level teams. Besides initial training, ATA participation includes site visits from their trainers to help schools continue to develop their technology expertise. ATA has consistently received high praise from participants throughout the state. MACUL (Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning) often sponsors or lists upcoming technology-related workshops and events. There is an annual conference in March and an Educational Technology Coordinator’s conference in late spring. Visit the MACUL website for information. |
