Personnel Skilled in Technology Assessment

Recently the US Department of Education mandated that in order for Michigan to receive Title 2D monies through ARRA, data on "the number of instructional personnel assessed and deemed skilled in the use of technology within the LEA. Michigan does not require or provide a technology skill assessment for instructional staff, but the USED is requiring us to report the data we can collect from districts."

While Michigan doesn't require an assessment, each school district must report this data in the Registry of Educational Personnel (REP). As a result, each district has to determine how to collect this data.

In an effort to ease the data gathering for this requirement, the Instructional Technology Specialist committee of REMC has created an assessment that is easy to administer and is aligned with the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS). It ties all 42 questions to the NETS and from basic productivity to Web 2.0. Schools should get a very good idea of their staff's proficiency with this comprehensive tool.

For more information, please contact your ISD's REMC staff person (www.remc.org).
